A list of helpful hints while working across the whole system:

Product image optimisation for faster uploads

It helps greatly to make sure that images been uploaded are not greater than 2500 pixels in any one side. The images displayed in the virtual shelf are naturally limited by the screen resolution. As such, having an image larger than this brings little benefit. Typically the recommended image size is between 250kb - 2mb

Product image preparation and automatic cropping

Sometimes when handling many product images, we need to make sure to crop the images correctly to remove the white space around the product. This is simply done by using XnConvert. This is a free program that can really help you in batch editing and automatic cropping of images.

Simply add the images and make sure you setup the correct steps in XnConvert.

Remove background from product images

To make sure the product images appear the best they can and look amazing to the client, we need to remove the background, this is the area around the product, that is sometimes white or has shadows of the product. Think of this as having a cutout of the product. Cutting around the product leaving only the product on the image file.

This can be done using a online editors, or free programs on windows, the simplest Free program on windows to use is called Paint.NET. Otherwise, to keep it even simpler, you can use an online editor. A simple search for background image remove will give you many platforms to use. Our pick would be the following:

Remove Background from Image – remove.bg

Background remover: Remove your image background for free (photoroom.com)

Naturally, to make sure that the image has the transparency we need, it must be saved as a PNG at all times.

Batch Rename product files easily

Product images received from the client can be quite disorgasnied disorganised and as such, we need to a tool to rename the 100s or so of files we get, for this we can use 2 programmes, both of which are windows based.

Booth tools will do the job, in terms of how to use these, I will leave you to explore it as it is easy to learn (wink)
